Hey! I am Dr. Elgin Pecjak (pets-yak) (he/him). I grew up in the area moving around between Hepworth, Shallow Lake, and Owen Sound. I went to Westhill Secondary School and graduated in 2008. My parents were local business owners and involved in the Chamber of Commerce in Owen Sound and in Meaford. Growing up in the area was a privilege I did not understand until I lived in a big city. I thought the quiet charm of rural living was not meant for me. Once I came back to the area and settle in Meaford in 2022, I knew I had returned home.
I have a Ph.D. from the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies from the University of Ottawa, and a Master’s and Undergraduate Honours from Wilfrid Laurier University. During the day, I am a healthcare researcher for a non-profit community-based organization and advocate for healthcare equity. I have had the pleasure of serving on the Meaford Public Library Board as a Trustee since 2022. I have represented the library as our Ontario Library Assembly Representative, and was the Chair of the Meaford Public Library Board Sub Committee on Library Service Contract.

By night, I volunteer my time running some of the programing at the Meaford Public Library, helping out with local events (such as Queerfest), and enjoying the local market, community events, and concerts.
